Arno Brandlhuber (°1964) is one of the most intriguing European architects and urban planners today, with an oeuvre rich in cultural references. He is known for his different collaborative practices, as suggested by the + in the name of his office. The + may refer to many different kinds of people: from architects and artists to writers, filmmakers and musicians. He has also become increasingly known as a teacher, researcher, theoretician and activist.
 
All these activities derive from Brandlhuber’s architectural practise and, no matter how many parties may be involved in the collaborations —and Brandlhuber really involves and credits many—, the one thing connecting them is always Arno Brandlhuber himself. These activities are therefore impossible to separate. Brandlhuber sees them all as part of the design of our built environment. In his own words, he stands for a discursive practice. It is also a practice that brings together people who represent the new creative class that has become so important in cities, and he believes in their ability to develop new, more diverse and flexible lifestyles.
